Space where you can solve the common doubts that may arise in relation to the master.

1.- WHO ARE THE TARGET STUDENTS?
Those who have completed university studies (degree or bachelor's degree), especially in Physics, Mathematics, Computer science or other Engineering, or work intensively with data in any professional area (Economy, Geography, Biology, etc.).
2.- WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE MASTER?
The objective of the master is to learn the fundamentals of Data Science and above all to know how to apply the techniques that analyze, manage and exploit the large volumes of data that are currently generated in many areas, from purely scientific and technological to the more commercial ones. The knowledge acquired in the Master will allow you to take a step forward in your professional future: both in new projects or initiatives in companies and in research, including the proposal of a doctoral thesis.
3.- WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND OF THE FACULTY BOARD? WHICH RESOURCES WILL BE AVAILABLE?
The faculty includes experts from various centers of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, CSIC, including several from the Institute of Physics of Cantabria, and the University of Cantabria, particularly the Faculty of Sciences, as well as national and international experts from research centers and companies on the different topics. All of them participate in multiple projects close to the topic of Data Science.

In addition, the course has all the resources available for researchers in the European Open Science Cloud: from large data servers to supercomputers, resources normally available to very few professionals at international level.
4.- HOW HARD IS IT? HOW MANY HOURS OF CLASS WILL I HAVE? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIPS?
It is an Official Master (approved by the ANECA and the Council of Universities) of 60 ECTS credits, and can be done in an intensive course (approximately 20 hours a week, from October to September, holidays excluded) or in two part-time courses (10 hours per week). The classes are mostly in the afternoon, from 16h to 20h, and from Monday to Thursday. If you need to know the exact details, you can contact us (the schedule will be published as soon as the pre-registration process ends).

Being an OFFICIAL Master it has a public fee, which in this case is 35 euros / ECTS credit, so the approximate total cost is 2,100 euros. In addition to the different options of scholarships depending on your academic record, there are scholarships covering the registration fee sponsored specifically for this master. You can consult it after the pre-registration.
5.- IS IT REALLY A MASTER WITH PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATION? WHAT PROSPECTS WILL I HAVE?
The master is supported by companies from all over Spain, including several multinationals and the administration, to find experts trained in this area. During the master you will have first of all access to the sponsored scholarships, secondly to contracts of up to six months paid by companies and research groups, and also to do your master thesis in a company. In addition contracts could also be opened up linked to the national and European projects in which the master teachers are involved. Each student will receive specific advice regarding the possible professional options.
6.- WHAT SPECIALTIES CAN I CHOOSE?
There are three main specialties: Data Science Analytics, Data Science Engineering, and Open Data Management. The first is mainly oriented to data analysis, with recent techniques such as deep learning, and an approach to the use of "semantics"; the second coves the implementation and exploitation of the necessary computing resources, and its methodology, and the third focuses on the management of open data repositories.

The three specialties have slightly different professional profiles, but the optional ones can also be used to complete the training in all areas of Data Science to professionals who are already experts in some of these topics.

In addition, "DataLabs" allow you to choose a very specific topic getting in touch with experts on that area and to know firsthand the most interesting resources and problems in areas such as Biology, Medicine, Environment, Biodiversity, Physics, Economics, Social Sciences or The Internet of Things.
7.- WHAT ARE THE MINIMAL REQUISITES?
In addition to the university degree, basic training in mathematics and computer science and knowledge of English (equivalent to B2) is required. The student will be advised to get additional training in these subjects before starting the Master.
8.- THE MASTER IS IN ENGLISH?
No, but a basic knowledge of English is necessary since a lot of the terminology and references are in English and there will be specific seminars in English. Foreign students who want to follow the master can also do so with the help of the supplementary material, but must prove a minimum level in Spanish.
9.- ASSISTANCE TO CLASSES AND ONLINE MATERIAL
Attendance to classes is mandatory and key to guarantee the proper use of the master. To help those who are unable to travel to all sessions, there will be the option of attendance through a professional remote participation system (GoToTraining). In addition all the material of the courses will be available in an online platform.

The master's degree takes place at the Instituto de Física de Cantabria in Santander.
10.- REALLY, WHAT ARE THE PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVES IN THE AREA?
The demand for Data Science experts has been growing for several years, and the deficit of high-level professionals in Europe and Spain is very high: it is estimated at hundreds of thousands in Europe in the next 10 years. It is also an area that will be affected positively by the impact of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence or Robotics, which will limit professional possibilities in many other fields.
